Nigerian Government Launches 30 Start-up Businesses By Youths

The Nigerian government on Friday launched 30 start-up businesses by youths under the Villa Demo Day platform for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo launched the businesses at an event attended by the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Professor Osinbajo also announced plans to collaborate with Facebook in coming months, expressing the belief that it will enhance entrepreneurial and innovative connectivity for Nigerian youths across Africa.

Bovi: I’ve conquered The Stage, Film Is The Next Level For Me

  Popular stand-up comedian, Bovi Ugboma, who has worked with top Nigerian comedy giants and featured in lots of comedy shows, has declared that he has conquered the stage and the next challenge for him now is movies. Bovi who once worked as Richard Mofe Damijo’s Personal Assistant recently delved into movie production.   His debut movie as a producer is “It’s Her Day”. Bovi first gained popularity for his acting skills after featuring in the sitcom, “Extended Family” which was produced in 2007.  

Ayade Gives 3000 Applicants Employment In Garment Factory

The Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, has given automatic employment to 300 applicants of the newly built and equipped Calabar Garment Factory. The beneficiaries were at the garment factory for the final employment screening exercise, where they were given immediate employment by the governor. While screening was on-going at the Garment Factory, Governor Ben Ayade visited the factory to monitor the ongoing process.

Nigeria In Recession: Government To Motivate Private Sector Investment

Channels Television breakfast program, Sunrise Daily, had Industrialist Sam Ohuabunwa as guest to discuss ongoing recession in Nigeria. He says the government should motivate private sector investment. Mr.   Ohuabunwa said in order for the economy to be boosted very fast, the government needs to stimulate production. And to be able to do that, the government’s spending has to be supported by that of the private sector.

Nigeria Ranks 106 out Of 140 Countries On Tech Readiness

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that in Global Competitiveness Report for 2015/2016, Nigeria recorded a score of 3.0 out of 7 and ranked 106 out of 140 countries on Technological Readiness and a score of 2.8 out of 7 with a rank of 117 out of 140 countries on Innovation. Ogbonnaya Onu. The time has come for us to be self-reliant and also be competitive enough for others to depend on us at least in some areas. This will nourish our national pride, says the Minister.  

50-yr-old Father Of Two Commits Suicide, Blames It On Economy

Ekanem Edet, former Secretary of the Mbiabong Village Council, popularly called Jolly Boy, took his life, allegedly leaving a suicide note in which he blamed his action on harsh economic condition. The deceased, in the suicide note, blamed government for inflicting unbearable pain and hardship on Nigerians Mr. Ekanem Edet was discovered dead by his friend, who went to visit him. He was said to be a very sociable man and always shared his thoughts on issues. Few days to his death, the deceased complained bitterly about the current economic crunch. Family members was reluctant to call in the police because of the suicide note. Sad!

Army Insists Boko Haram Leader Is Dead

Major General Lucky Irabor has dismissed doubts over claims that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is dead. He insisted that the individual originally identified as Shekau has indeed been killed. He said this during a tour of Adamawa State as part of the formations under his command. “I can confirm to you that the original Shekau was killed, the second Shekau was killed, and the man presenting himself as Shekau, I can also confirm to you that few days ago, he was wounded. We are yet to confirm whether he is dead or not”.
