US Secretary of State: John Kerry’s Caution On Handling Of Extremists

United States of America’s Secretary of State, John Kerry, made a two-day stop in Nigeria on Monday and Tuesday. His had meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari, Northern governors and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III. Many Northern governors who had eagerly looked forward to his visit were hoping he would unfold some goodies that could increase American investment, especially in agriculture and mining in their respective states, and some military and humanitarian assistance in the fight against the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency. 

ASUU Warns Against Imminent Strike Over 2009 Nigerian Government/ASUU Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has again warned that the Federal Government’s failure to honour the implementation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement may lead to another industrial action. ASUU Lagos Zone Coordinator, Professor Olusiji Sowande, who spoke at the University of Lagos yesterday said: ‘’We are perplexed and disappointed that the Federal and state governments are not responding to our consistent appeals to bring about genuine transformation, driven by highly-motivated human capital in the education sector.’’

AN Ijaw group, Niger Delta Security Watch Organisation, NDSWO, has differed with the Warri Study Group, WSG, an Itsekiri group, over the latter’s denunciation of the purported interface by Ijaw leaders, led by Chief Edwin Clark, under the auspices of a pan-Niger Delta coastal states, which it described as an Ijaw agenda.

Breaking: Italy Rescues 6,500 Migrants From Mediterranean

Some 6,500 migrants, most believed to be Africans, were saved off the Libyan coast in 40 separate rescue missions on Monday, the Italian coast guard said on Twitter, in one of the largest influxes of refugees in a single day so far this year. Chris Brown Arrested and Charged With Assault After Woman Calls 911

The R&B singer Chris Brown has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Police was called to Chris’s Los Angeles home at 3am on Tuesday morning after a woman called police for assistance. Chris had been posting online videos declaring his innocence. In one Instagram video Brown, waving a cigarette and looking at the camera, says if and when police get the search warrant, they will find nothing at the home. He dismissed TV reports that he was barricaded inside.

Nigeria, UK Sign MoU On Return Of Stolen Assets

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Government on the modalities for the return of Nigerian stolen assets. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, signed on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Tuesday. Malami said that the MoU reflected the desire and willingness of both countries to continue cooperation and mutual support.
